Hello, I am Sofia
Project manager. A parent. Expat living in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Portugal wasn't in our long-term plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it began as a work opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The early months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and new expectations. Daily tasks felt more complex than they should.
The Adjustment Period
We encountered culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt secure.
Why I Built Prairie Ember Glow Steel
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation guidance or shallow tourism material. What was missing was honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Portugal.
